Today we had a 15 minute meeting with John Fedden of Expat Tax Thailand.
We had read several very good reports of Carl Turner who runs the company, and we weren’t disappointed.
Little things like being very clear about the UK time of the meeting, excellent communication reminding us about the meeting, and clear, simple PDF outlining tax information for British Expats.
A company looking to have long term relationships with their customers and not just to make ‘a quick buck’.
How refreshingly different.

By nature, I am very skeptical about services provided by companies that start with the name ‘Expats’ and also about other law firms. What happened to me with EXPATTAX—it cannot be expressed positively enough—is an experience with which I hereby pay my respect and esteem to Ms Anthiya Srisol and Mr Carl Turner.

Due to the changes in Thai tax for foreigners, I was looking for a solution to the new challenge. I found the solution with Expat Tax Thailand. Competent advice, very good customer service and perfect communication. My choice turned out to be the best decision. I can only recommend it and do not regret it. I spoke with Carl Turner, at no cost, who basically told me over the phone how much tax I would need to pay next year – which wasn’t very much as I had feared it would be. I appreciated the recording of Carl’s very informative webinar presentation on 2 November 2023 about the impending Thai Tax changes that will impact on me from 1 January 2024 as a tourist visiting Thailand for more than 180 days in a Thai Tax Year.

I live in Chiang Rai and due to the flooding I thought it would be best to use the Thai tax number service. The application form is in Thai so I would have struggled to complete it. Expat Tax did it all for me for a reasonable fee. My new tax number arrived in about 3 days. An excellent quick service all I had to do was provide a copy of my UK passport and they did the rest.
I am also using the early bird tax return service again at a reasonable fee. I didn’t know that I had to provide a 6 month return because I transfer rental income from Scotland. Again they did it all for me and I owe no tax yet. It’s a great relief to know that I have complied with the new tax regulations at a fraction of the cost I would have paid in the UK for a similar service. I highly recommend Expat tax.

I was looking for in-depth knowledge on the new Thai income tax rules 2024 and how it will impact me as a foreigner. I found Carl Turner’s youtube channel. Very insightful on double taxation without any sales pitch. The same applies to his website. Very detailed Q&A there. Then I spoke Carl briefly for 15 mins. I presented him with 2 of my tax filing use cases. He could answer them. Some answers were not pleasant to hear, but he was frank.
Right now I think Carl is a pioneer on this subject with most in depth knowledge. I could not find a peer yet with same level of Carl’s knowledge, which is publicly available. I hope to make use of his services in the future.
